We are focused on training the fundamentals of firearms safety and manipulation.  We do not teach 3- gun or run-and-gun classes, we are focused on everyday carry for the average citizen.  Our course curriculum gives the instructor the ability to take someone from initial purchase to LTC (License to Carry) qualification and beyond.  Please check our course listing below for courses offered and requirements for course registration.  We look forward to seeing you soon and assisting you with furthering your skillset.

COURSE LISTING:  These courses are listed in the order in which we believe they should be taken with the ultimate goal of obtaining a License to Carry and being comfortable and confident with your firearm.

Special Class Attendee Advisory: The store does have drinks available, but please bring a snack if you feel you will need one. The range is outdoors, so please bring appropriate clothing for the weather conditions.  Do not bring your handgun into the building until instructed to do so.  Always keep your handgun unloaded unless instructed otherwise.

          

INTRODUCTION TO HANDGUNS: 

This course is for the individual who is considering handgun ownership for the first time.  Note: There is no shooting portion to this class.

This course covers the essentials of owning and maintaining a handgun:
Double Action (DA) / Single Action (SA) revolver and semi-auto
Ammunition Type (s)
Safety Rules on Range and Range Description
Basic Cleaning and Maintenance of your handgun
Class Length will be between 1 and 2 hours long

Cost:   $35.00 per person 
Couple will be $25.00 per person
Child is $20.00 parent attendance required

                


Intro to Handgun



 

BASIC PISTOL: 

This course is for shooters with limited experience or for people looking to improve their current shooting skills.
This course is the next step in the evolution of a new pistol owner.
(Note: We prefer this course be taken with the firearm you will be carrying as an  LTC holder.  We have firearms for rent.)

Basic Pistol



LICENSE TO CARRY (LTC): Formerly known as Concealed Handgun Licensing

Effective January 1, 2016:  The Concealed Handgun License (CHL) class will now be called License to Carry (LTC).  Effective September 1, 2013, the Texas Concealed Handgun License Class is a minimum four hour to maximum six hour in-class training.  This time does not include range time for the qualification course.

There are two independent steps that must be completed to obtain a Texas License to Carry a Handgun (LTC):

Step 1 – applying online with the Department of Public Safety.

Step 2 – completing an LTC class. It does not matter which is done first.

Pricing for the class is $75 per student.

New Applicant – $40

Renewing Applicant – $40

COURSE OF FIRE:

Please be advised there is a qualification process in this class. Guidance will be given on handgun safety, but you must have basic handgun skills and shooting experience to qualify. If you do not have experience and would like additional training please contact the instructors and check the training calendar.  The range is outdoors, so please bring appropriate clothing for the weather conditions. DO NOT BRING YOUR HANDGUN INTO THE BUILDING UNTIL INSTRUCTED TO DO SO. ALWAYS, KEEP YOUR HANDGUN UNLOADED UNLESS INSTRUCTED OTHERWISE.

The following course of fire is required for proficiency demonstration. To successfully qualify, shooters must complete this course with a minimum score of 70% (175 out of possible 250). For CHL Instructors, the minimum score is 90% (225 out of possible 250). If any malfunctions are encountered, the shooter will work through the problem and finish the course of fire. If rounds are held (not fired within the allotted time), the shots will be scored as misses. All courses of fire will be scored on a standard B-27 target. The B-27 target must be 24 inches by 45 inches and may be one of four colors; black, blue, red, or green. The target shall be scored utilizing the 5, 4, 3 scoring diagram in the upper, left-hand corner.

REQUIRED EQUIPMENT:

*A semi-automatic handgun of at least .22 caliber OR a non-semi-automatic handgun (revolver) of at least .22 caliber in good working condition
*Handguns are subject to inspection by the instructors prior to training and at any time during the training course
*No optical sights allowed (example: scopes, laser, or holographic)
*No handgun may have any modification which compromises the safety of the firearm
*Revolver must not have “pushoff” on single action
*Firearms will be available to rent for $10 at the store.  If the student needs ammunition, it will be available for sale as well

*Full Metal Jacket (FMJ) ammunition only.  No hollow points, tracers, or simunition.
*Reloaded ammunition is not allowed
*Ammunition must meet SAAMI specifications (see approved list below)
*Must have a minimum of 50 rounds for each handgun (extra is recommended in case of retest)

*Closed-toe footwear, such as boots or athletic shoes

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
*A written examination and proficiency demonstration will be administered to each student.  Students must score a minimum of 70% on the written examination and 70% (175 out of 250) on the proficiency demonstration in order to pass this course.
*Instructions on handling handguns at the proficiency demonstration will be provided during classroom training.  (Holsters will not be used, handguns must be stored in a closed carrying case/bag, not time will be allotted for practice or to zero the handguns during the class).
Students must abide by all range safety rules.  Failure to comply with safety rules will result in immediate removal from the range, and result in course failure.
(No family members, guests or pets will be allowed in the classroom or at the range unless approval is given before the day of the class.  (If you would like your spouse/significant other to sit with you in class, this is acceptable as long as prior approval is granted).  Absolutely no guests allowed on the range during qualification.
*Please bring a pen and paper for note taking.

*If you are military and have a current pistol range card or a document showing proof of pistol qualifying through the military, you may be eligible to waive the qualifying process

This course is designed around day to day carry of your firearm. This course provides a basis to further your handgun skills.  This is not an introductory course you should have an intimate knowledge of your firearm and how it functions.

We assist you in breaking down and cleaning your gun with YOUR CLEANING SUPPLIES.
There will be a limited amount of cleaning supplies available in the store.  Please call in advance for scheduling so the staff can better help you with individual firearms.

SHOOT WITH AN INSTRUCTOR/PRIVATE LESSONS:

NRA BASIC PISTOL: 

This class is an NRA Certified class meaning that upon completion you receive a Certificate.

This class covers all aspects of handgun usage:
Safety
Pistol Mechanisms and Operation
Building Pistol Shooting Skills
Pistol Maintenance, Selection and use
*The course goal is to teach the basic knowledge, skills, and  attitude for owning and operating a pistol safely*
This course will be listed on the NRA website when it is offered.

There is a shooting component in this class we will shoot after the conclusion of the classroom portion.  You will need at least 50 rounds of ammunition.

SITUATIONAL AWARENESS/COVER AND CONCEALMENT:

This course is designed to be taken at anytime it is not firearm dependent.  We cover many topics of personal safety – see below.
